Gastric balloon is a balloon made of silicon which can be swelled to the volume of 500-700 cc after being placed into the stomach with endoscopic method. In this way, a saturation is formed in the stomach and a feeling of fullness is obtained.
It is a temporary method for losing weight applied with endoscopy for individuals who cannot lose weight with diet and exercise, who do not want to have an operation and have high risk for operation within one day without requiring hospitalization.
After being inserted, the gastric balloon should be removed after 6 months to 1 year.
This procedure cannot be applied in case of gastric ulcer, wide stomach hernia and pregnancy. Nausea, pain, ulcer, stomach bleeding, gastric perforation, intestinal obstruction are rarely seen complications of the procedure.
Gastric balloon should not be seen as a miracle. It can be defined as a supplementary process for diet.
